A CHANCE FOR A CHANGE, A CHANGE FOR A CHANCE

Just two little letters,
A C and A G,
Giving different meanings to the words:
A CHANCE, from latin and old French etymology,
Is a possibility of something happening,
An opportunity;
A CHANGE, same latin and old French etymology,
Is making different an act or process
Through which something becomes different.
And now, playing with the words
In a pun… and discovering links
Between these two words,
Not just playing but reflecting
On the implications on life
Between CHANCE and CHANGE.
Sometimes life seems so repetitive, predictable:
Same gestures, same speeches, same times,
Same places, same experiences, even people,
Nothing seems to be able to change.
You sit in this securizing train-train,
A little impatient, a little prancing horse;
You flatten, losing creative energy and dynamism
And you realize that nothing changes;
When life itself, circumstances, people
Give you not yet a change but a chance.
Doors open
That you would have previously left closed,
Windows let in new air..
Then this chance, this opportunity brings a change.
You want to grasp things differently,
You want to run as an athlete,
Your being craves new things,
You feel the need to give more , to improve yourself.
You want to go up a few steps.
And it is a vicious circle
Because life offers you a CHANCE to CHANGE
And CHANGE itself gives you other CHANCE
To improve yourself, to grow.
You know there is a risk in changing.
“Nothing ventured, nothing gained”
Our life does not get better by chance.
You can fall, hurt you,
And getting up requires
Effort, courage, hope, self-confidence.
It is not always easy
To leave the old path for the new.
But life throws us challenges…..
Seize a CHANCE does not mean
Turning everything upside;
It means accepting the CHANGE
To enrich yourself inside,
To give more to others,
To understand better,
To know how to be
More compassionate, more grateful.
And younwillnunderstand soon
That it is not the formal changes that count,
When you chose to embrace a CHANCE
What matters is your CHANGE inside
And your broader horizon.
Then the CHANCE that life has offered you
Becomes a CHANGE
Modifying C to G….
And then CHANGE offers you new CHANCES in turn.
Because life is a constant CHANGE
That we should know how to accept
Like a tree does with the wind:
Bending but not breaking.
A pun becoming maybe a brittle reflection……
