Trekking
Jaya Bhandari
Long ago at the end of summer in September, Gore had a Jomsom-Muktinath trekking.
He begins the days of trekking with a Danish couple. There were four altogether that drove to Pokhara and started the trek from Naypul.
According to the itinerary, Steps started along the trail towards Birethanti, Hile, Tikhedhunga, Ulleri and Ghorepani. Weather was in medium state not clearing not rainy. Next day had to go Tatopani and head to Muktinath along Kaligandaki valley.
They decent down till Shikha village they stopped for lunch there. Their eye sight went to the cliffy mountain towards kaligandaki valley. Big cliff fell down and suddenly kaligandaki was blocked. And all travelers might stock on Tatopani and where they were halted. Guide showed to his clients and discussed about that insistent. Either continue towards Tatopani or divert to another optional trekking route to Annapurna base camp or so on.
Finally they decided to divert the trip towards ABC. First they wanted to eat lunch. Guide gave all information of the alternative plan. The plan was heading to go ABC or just go back to Pokhara via Ghandruk, Landruk and Dhampus. The Guests decided to go via Chhomrong, ABC, Chhomrong, Landruk Dhampus then Pokhara.
After lunch they headed to Ghorepani again. Journey had to end from Jomsom after reaching Muktinath but had to go throughout the next plan due to the unexpected natural calamities.
Their guide said, ‘sorry for the changing plan , if we wait the road clearance from that fall it would take long time and you don’t have enough days . So we are doing great, I appreciate you that you listen to my suggestion.’
Porter Gune also was happy to go another trekking destination. He carried the guest’s baggage on his back and head to Ghorepani. Porter and guide they use to recall each other as mama and Bhanja. Mama you did plan to change the trekking destination on this risky time. Guide said that it’s called right decision on the spot. That kind situation use to remind the home family and relatives as well. Weather was gloomy, not sunny and not rainy. They went to the same lodge where they spent last night. They met many tourists heading to Jomsom as Danish couple was doing before troubling the road by land slide over kaligandaki.
Carl Kristen and Christen they asked about family, if guest became closer or familier with guide and porter they want o know detail about their family. Gore also told about his family. He had a wife, a daughter and two sons. He took his clients to ABC and back Pokhara. Finally trek was finished successfully. Unexpectedly he heard that his house was empery and kicked out the family. He did not say to his colleague at that moment about the sadden news. He saw landslide in nature and in his life together.
The land slide was symbolic immense disaster in Gore’s life.
