Environment pollution in Nepal
World Environment Day
Surashma Lamichhane
We all have been well aware about the problem of environmental pollution which has been very petrifying to the living beings. We human beings have been using the natural resources profusely. We are mainly responsible for the destructive changes in the environment.
The rapid use of fossil fuels, increase in deforestation, unstable use of natural resources, overuse of pesticides and other chemicals, sewage and wastewater, nuclear waste, industrialization, urbanization, use of plastics and a lot more factors contribute to environmental pollution.
Ever since the lockdown started in Nepal, there has been a little more positive change in the environment since the vehicles are barely on the road and people don’t travel much. The environment has been in a better condition. We could barely see the birds flying around before but nowadays we can see the birds chirping and flying up in the sky due to decrease in air pollution.
Recently the government has decided that the plastics that are less than 40 microns will be banned from use from the month of Shrawan 2078. This is a very great decision taken by the government. But it shall be helpful only if it is implemented.
The government has also decided to sell the natural minerals like sand, rocks, mud etc to India. This is a very unpleasant decision. It may bring various adverse impact to the environment. There will be complications in irrigation facility, deforestation will take place and landslides may occur, the water resources will get soaked. This may collapse the whole ecosystem in general. There will be very less production of crops and the economy of the whole country can go downhill by this negative decision made by the government. The government should really take a closer look at what their decision might lead the environment and the whole country to in the future.
These are the key points that needs to be followed in order to bring a positive change in the environment.
- The garbage should be properly disposed and managed.
- Use of pesticides and fertilizers must be controlled.
- Legal provisions should be made in order for people to manage solid wastes properly.
- Rivers, ponds and lakes should not be polluted because it affects animals and plants lives too.
- Afforestation should begin and deforestation should come to an end
- Strong laws related to environment should be made and implemented.
- The environment of the industrial areas should be properly managed by the industries and concerned agencies
- The government should ban the use of old vehicles.
We should work for the betterment of the environment because the nature has provided a lot to us and we shouldn’t be disgraceful towards it.
