IN DEFENSE OF THE WEAKEST
Dahlia Tera
What makes you get a lump in your throat
And leads you wanting to scream?
What knots your stomach
And leads you wanting to vomit?
What fills your eyes with tears
And leads you wanting to open large these eyes?
Likely the worst of human behavior:
INJUSTICE
Engendering inside you heartfelt feelings;
A fusion of compassion and anger
In a sense of shame, of helplessness, of repulsion…
Because it falls on the weakest
Poor, sick, children, old ones
Who cannot defend themselves
And suffer and ail.
This weed of personal and collective selfishness
Takes many forms,
One more ugly and intolerable than the other:
It is arrogance, prevarication, ruse,
It is abuse, favoritism, oppression ……..
In every society, it is discrimination and inequalities.
Human rights violated against the weakest,
Poor, sick, children, old ones.
Lack of food, water, health, education, childhood,
Lack of selflessness, of love….
Let’s choose to look, not to close our eyes,
Let’s tell, talk, shout about.
Injustices have to stop!
From the single to the collective,
Individually and socially,
Injustices have to stop!
‘INJUSTICE ANYWHERE IS A THREAT TO JUSTICE EVERYWHERE.’ – Martin Luther King
