THE CHARACTERS OF MAHABHARAT COME ALIVE

Once upon a time, a little girl lived nearby the Ganga River. Her name was Mira. Mira lived with her parents. Mira never spent money on unnecessary things, instead, she used to donate one thousand rupees each week.

Mira had seen her mother worship Lord Krishna. She asked her mother why they worship Lord Krishna. ‘Because he is a God, haven’t you heard about his story?’ replied her mother. Mira said she had not. One night Mira’s father brought a book called ‘KRISHNALILA’ for Mira. The book was in English and Nepali. Mira was interested in the book and started reading it. She finished it within a week.

She learned that Lord Krishna also known as Shree Krishna played a virtual role in big wars such as Kurushetra and others. Shree Krishna was Mira’s favorite god. In other words, Mira was a devotee of Lord Krishna.

On her 10th birthday, Mira asked for blessings to Lord Krishna. That night she had a dream that Lord Krishna came to meet her. Lord Krishna came and said ‘Dear Mira I have seen you from heaven. I am very pleased with you because you have loved others. I see that you cry at others’ pain and feel sad for them. Today I give you the power to come to heaven anytime you wish. All you have to do is to come to the shore of Ganga River and say;

INDRA
THE LORD OF
RAIN
THE KING OF
HEAVEN
I WISH YOU
TO SHOW ME THE DOOR TO HEAVEN
HAIL LORD
INDRA
HAIL LORD
INDRA
HAIL LORD
INDRA

That’s all.

My dear this shall lead you to the door to heaven. My little Mira, please do not tell this to any human being or they might use this divine god’s power for bad deeds. I bless you for your good health and please come to heaven tomorrow because we have a big problem here, and my little angel does not tell anyone about this dream. I beg you to believe me.’

Mira woke early the next morning. She was very happy as she thought that Lord Krishna had really met her.

In the evening Mira went to the shore of Ganga and recited the magic spell without hesitation, and then there was a flash of white and Mira found herself in a snowy cloudy playground. She heard a roar and looked behind her. She found a big monster looking back at her at that moment. She was scared when she saw a giant monster staring at her. At the very moment, Lord Krishna arrived and he said, ‘Mira come here!! Duryodhan sent that monster again.’

‘Namaskar Lord Krishna, who is Duryodhan?’ asked Mira, finding her voice at the end.

‘Come here I shall tell you about everything.’ Saying this lord Krishna took Mira’s both hands. And he took her to a hall which had a throne. In the room, Lord Krishna introduced Mira to Lord Indra, Lord Shiva, Lord Bishnu, Lord Brahma, and Lord Ganesh.

Then, Lord Krishna started telling Mira a long story of Mahabharat. Mira listened to him with great interest as Lord Krishna started telling that a king called Bharat chose the son of a sage as a crown prince instead of his own 9 sons. She then listened to the story of king

Shantanu and his wife queen Ganga. She felt sad as she found out that queen Ganga threw her babies into river Ganga. She later found out because they were vasus of heaven and were cursed to live on earth for a lifetime. She also found out that king Shantanu and Queen Ganga were cursed to live on earth for a lifetime.

Thus lord Krishna took Mira to the lives of queen mother Satyawati, her sons Chitrangada and Vichitravirya, king Vichitravirya’s wives were Aambalika and Ambika. Krishna also told stories about how princess Amba found only a way to kill Bhishma.

Pandu and Dhirtarastra were the sons of King Vichitravirya. Pandu married Kunti and Dhritarastra married Gandhari. Then came the next generation.Yudhistir, Bhim, Arjun, Nakul and Sahadev.They were also called the Pandavas as they were the sons of the Pandu. A hundred Kauravas were also there who were the sons of king Dhritarastra and queen Gandhari. Mira was amazed when she heard that Arjun’s son Abhimanyu married princess Uttara and Borned a son named Parikshit. Even Bheem had a son Ghatoskatch, Ghatoskatch married Mauravi and gave birth to a son called Barbarik. Imagine what grandsire Bhishma had to say to Barbarik? She also found out that along with the 100 Kauravas there was only one daughter. Arjun had 4 wives; Draupadi, Subhadra, Ulupi and Chitrangada. As soon as the everlasting story of Mahabharat was finished Lord Krishna said to Mira ‘Mira we have a problem here could you help us? Duryodhan lives in hell but he tries to be the king of heaven. I could stop him but I need someone else to help me because Duryodhan knows my intentions. If you could go and say what I told you to say to Duryodhan then it might work.’

He said the plan to Mira. Mira agreed to him. After that Mira went to hell and to Duryodhan’s palace and started to fool him she said;
‘Oh ! uncle Duryodhan am so fond of you, I wish you to be the king of heaven, I came here to tell you a plan to get the power, I want to cheer for you hail king Duryodhan of heaven then people on the earth will just throw away Lord Indra’s photos and then they will make portraits of you and there will be statues of you too and … Oh first I will share with you the plan, I have in mind. I know that you have to be the king. The crown of lord Indra lies beside his bed go to his room at night would you then get the crown and be the king of heaven.’ Duryodhan believed Mira’s plan and he went to Lord Indra’s room at night he stole the fake crown prepared just for him and while running away he bumped into Lord Krishna and the crown broke then Lord Krishna asked him what he was doing and he also explained about Duryodhan’s rights his dos and don’ts. Duryodhan was ashamed and asked for forgiveness. Heaven became a peaceful place again and Mira became the princess of heaven then Mira went to earth but she never forgot Lord Krishna and she visited him in heaven.
