Yes, HE IS A JOURNALIST
By Ashok Silwal
… as a journalist.
You will recognize him
By his somewhat neglected elegance;
He curated this look… a bit bohemian..
Little Narcissus, he likes to seem casual,
Between the sportsman, the busy man, the poet,
HE IS A JOURNALIST.
Once he held his microphone
Or his notebook, his pencil in the mouth.
Today, his smartphone is always ready.
On the ground, often he runs, in a hurry,
At his desk, he is inundated with documents
Or immersed in his screen.
He likes the French sound of that job’s name,
It gives him a certain pride.
HE IS A JOURNALIST.
Different from the writer who creates and invents,
He discovers, he smells out, he analyses,
He describes, he chooses, he spreads,
He informs and comments.
He accesses where others cannot,
His card opens doors;
People were locked down, he could move on…
He does not search for poetic eternal words
That will overtake the Time.
He looks for effectiveness and concreteness.
He wants to paste the reality.
HE IS A JOURNALIST.
Wage earner or freelance,
He writes articles, investigations,
Reportages, editorials..
He talks in interviews.
About any topic
That he deems worthy of disclosure:
Culture, Art, Economy, Policy, Sport,
International and gossips….
He knows his responsibilities and role,
He knows he can help,
Changing and improving things
For people, his readers or not,
For his country maybe..
HE IS A JOURNALIST
He knows that if he is doing it
Well and with honesty,
His work is noble: JOURNALISM.
He believes in his work
He loves it.
