WHAT IS TRUE LUXURY?

LUXURY: EXIBITION or TIME

Ashok SILWAL

When we think about the idea of luxury,
To our eyes and mind
Come objects like cars, hi-tech,
Jewelry, palaces, yachts, furniture,
Perfumes, exclusive locations…
And luxurious is synonymous with
Sumptuous, opulent, rich, majestic.
Something that goes beyond
Normal comfort or satisfaction.
This kind of luxury is expensive,
It involves unnecessary and uncontrolled spending,
Or the purchase or use of objects
That do not have an utility
Corresponding to the price
But are aimed at satisfying
Ambition, vanity, desire to be seen.
It is a sort of materialistic ostentation
Which gives value to the exterior.
It is often excess, overabundance,
Desire to appear in the eyes of others.

However, not everything is to be denigrated
Because luxury is not just
Everything that is or appears
Superfluous and costs a lot.
Luxury has produced and produces masterpieces
In the fashion field but not only…
It uses the finest materials ;
It is creativity;
It means high prices but also exclusivity
And excellent quality.
It is the peopler who can afford it
Who often abuse it
Confusing ostentation and discretion
And falling into vulgarity.
“EVEN IN A CRISTAL GLASS
BAD WINE REMAINS BAD!”

And today more than ever,
Luxury is synonymous with immaterial emotion.
Perhaps Covid and its consequences
Have contributed to making us feel
Our fragility, our ephemeral character.
So we can ask ourselves
What is the real luxury?
And maybe we understand better
That luxury is not watches
Necklaces, shops, dresses, gifts …
Luxury is in what money can’t buy.
So the true luxury is the time,
The ability to relax,
The capacity to enjoy your moment.
Luxury is staying healthy.
Luxury is freedom.
Luxury is taking time to laugh with friends,
Luxury is the rain on the face and the hugs,
Luxury is to be respected;
Luxury is being able to talk and play with your children,
Luxury is enjoying a sunrise, a sunset, a walk in nature,
Luxury is still have parents alive,
Luxury is finding time to listen, to learn, to wonder,
Luxury is living serene and carefree,
Far from the glaring exorbitance,
Far from showy “elegance” for the sole purpose of appearance,
Luxury is discretion of behaviors,
Luxury is simplicity, spontaneity, kindness, generosity…
Luxury is the opposite of vulgarity, not of poverty.

ONE CAN LIVE WITHOUT THE RICHES OF LUXURY BUT NOT WITHOUT TENDERNESS.
