What is new in the New Year?

I wonder, what is new in the New Year?
Is there something to mull over and fear?
Will the New Year have nightless days?
Or will it only have night’s embrace?

Do you think plains will be transformed into hills or vice versa?
I question myself if the sun will pause its rotation,
It would be a relief if fresh air blew in the atmosphere.

After the brief spring, the sky will pour its heart out,
And submerge the flats of Tarai, triggering landslides in the hills.
Festivals will greet us, offering mortals the opportunity to revel in joy.

Have old stars died and new stars been reborn?
Has human animosity and war vanished, with a new humanity emerging?
Have we gotten rid of egotism, superstition, and perversion?

Human arrogance and hubris rule the roost,
Humans have degenerated into lesser than unruly beasts,
Exploiting and abusing the mother continue unabated.
Against such a backdrop, what is new in the New Year?
Is there anything to elate and share?
