WHAT A STONE MAKES YOU THINK OF?
Reflection in poetic shape by Dahlia Tera
How many shapes and sizes,
How many colors: grey, white, rose, black,
Brown and others …
How many names and compositions:
Sedimentary, metamorphic, igneous …
Smooth or rough stone, crumbly or hard,
How many stories in a stone …
Granit, marble, clay,
Limestone or gemstone …
But we are not dealing here with geology
Rather on many types of uses.
If you ask anyone, young or old, male or female:
What a stone makes you think of?
The answers will be surprisingly varied!
The child, instinctively , throws it into the lake
To watch the circles that form,
Or turns it into a car or a character to play,
The distracted man trips over it on his path,
After long day working in the fields
The farmer looks for it to sit on and rest,
The mason transports them and uses them to build,
Temples and houses in walls, floors and coatings,
Vertically and horizontally,
Today some decorators and designers
Use stone for furniture as table or decorative items.
Prehistoric men have elevated dolmens and menhirs
Which were like religious monuments linked to astrology,
Still today, some ascetic yogi will answer
That the rock is his home in the caves.
In Ancient Egypt, stones were the objects of worship
And placed in the tombs.
Women have always used precious stones
To embellish themselves.
Unfortunately, in certain contexts of war or violence,
Stones are also used as weapons.
Food is cooked on the refractory ones;
And some of them are effective against negative energies,
Real therapeutic use of jade, turquoise, amethyst …
From the rough stone, the sculptors
Gave birth to their masterpieces as Michelangelo ‘David’;
And the mountain guide’s answer will be
The stones of the cairns on the trails …
Small pebble or big rock,
There will always be some stone
In your life path,
And in many cases
The difference is not in the stone
But in the person …
