NO: THE NEW PASSWORD
By Dahlia Tera
A new variant of Covid
Is threatening at the door,
Indeed, Omicron has already entered
And attacks …
And the world closes,
Shrouded in fears and terrors.
Again …
Governments taking restraining measures:
Half or whole lockdowns,
Surgical masks or FFP2,
No kisses,
No faces,
No hugs,
No schools,
No stadium …
NOOOO…. is the new password
With tests and codes
That paralyzes the world.
You know it is for the common good
But your freedom suffers.
This so dear freedom, this liberty,
The first voice in the motto
Of the French Revolution,
For which human beings fought
And continue to shed blood.
You feel it is muted …
Individual and collective,
To act, to move, to work, to do …
Inner and outer,
To think, to create, to love, to dream …
Call it Alpha, Beta, Gama, Covid … Omicron,
This virus and its variants
Are incredibly voracious and devastating
Physically
Morally,
Psychologically,
Philosophically,
Socially,
Anthropologically,
Economically … cally, … cally, … cally.
.
When I think about freedom
Generally the first is
The denied one to the prisoner
For punishment.
No more able to move, to walk …
Where, when, how he wants.
And that is a bit what I feel now:
The virus has put me ‘in detention’
Not with bars and looks
But with fears and anxieties
And with orders that force me.
Yes, I think: it is my outside freedom of movement
But no one can steal my inner freedom from me,
The secrets of its meanders;
Closing my eyes in the dark of the night,
There is my freedom …
But even here the virus eats apart:
From time to time, discouragement is lurking
Now-and-then, sadness awaits at the gate,
Sometimes, laziness installs itself …
Freedom involves many facets
All quite darkened for a long time
By that nasty midget beast.
Freedom that seems so natural and obvious
Even conditioned by many factors,
Health, age, weather, politics, economy …
Only when we can’t use it,
We realize how precious it was.
And an infinite number of philosophers
Have questioned the nature of freedom..
Can we really be completely free?
No one will ever answer: yes!
Because freedom depends on
Culture,
Emotions,
Country,
Traditions,
Habits,
Experiences,
Family …
Our condition of a human being.
But, don’t give up this ‘conditional liberty!’
It still allows us to live and love
In many unforgettable fantastic
Small and great moments.
Accept to momentarily reduce
Our individual freedom
In the name of a collective one
And of the defeat of the horrible virus.
And as the saying goes: ‘True freedom is that which conforms to the law.’
