CHRISTMAS HAS PASSED

Dahlia Tera

Yesterday,
Enthusiastically,
Excitedly,
We read here: ‘Christmas is coming…’
Today,
With nostalgia,
And a hint of bitterness and sadness,
We say: ‘Christmas has passed…’

Friends and relatives have left,
The house is in confusion,
There is everything everywhere,
Empty glasses,
Dishes left there half full,
Worn out candles,
Undone decorations
With which the children played,
The crumpled papers of the open gifts,
Even the tree,
In the corner of the room,
Seems to say: ‘I’m tired…’

It is time to tidy up for next year;
Many memories in the heart,
Countless photos on your mobile,
The songs,
The shouts of joy in the ears…
But,
The sparkling atmosphere is now gone.

You sit and watch,
In the silence of the early morning,
Everyone at home still sleeping.
Unaware of the time
That passes inexorably.

In a few times,
You will no longer foresee anything.
Then you will think how fragile we are,
How little our celebrations are,
But so necessary:
For affection,
For spirituality,
For being together,
For the lights and the colors,
For the joys and the hopes,
For the screams of innocent children,
For the eyes of the remembering elderly.

Recurrences
That mark the time,
That consolidate the feelings,
That warm the hearts,
That strengthen families and friendships,
Because seemingly
At Christmas, we are all better.

Let’s try not to forget this goodness!
