THE VIRTUE OF THE STRONG
Dahlia Tera
Patience…..
The word originates from Latin
And Ancient Greek :
PATIRE – PATHOS.
It is acceptance,
It is endurance of pain.
Not to be confused
With resignation,
With submission,
With renunciation…..
Patience is not inability to react.
Nature itself gives us
Great lessons in positive patience .
Waiting for the seed to mature
And become a plant
That gives fruit.
Yes, all things need time to mature
And a house is not built in a day.
Patience is a faculty
That is cultivated voluntarily.
It is a quality
But also a work we do on ourselves.
Then patience is hope and self-control
Knowing how to wait calmly,
It is listening and understanding,
It is meditating and relaxing.
It is said to be “the virtue of the strong”;
Who are in no hurry
To see results.
Patience allows to measure
The pros and cons.
It avoids nervousness and violence,
It prevents inaccuracy and negligence.
Managing to be patient
Demonstrates greater resistance
And “wins” over who seems stronger.
Too often, who is patient, is mistaken
For submissive, passive, resigned, weak.
It is exactly the opposite:
A patient person is
Meek, indulgent, docile, quiet, understanding
So…… able to accept,
To react to adversities and difficulties,
With calm and spirit of tolerance.

Sure, when patience is just waiting ,
It hurts…..
Who waits patiently,
Sometimes gets desperate and confused,
Especially not knowing
If his patience will be rewarded.
Sometimes, ”patience is bitter.
Even if its fruit is so sweet…”
So.. mind and heart have to be patient…
Because,
The bamboo takes five years
To throw the first leaves,
It takes twenty-two months
For the elephant mother to see her baby,
The sculptor needs days and nights
To create his work,
The flower has to wait for the right season
To bloom…
And we have to wait Dashain for the victory of Good over Evil……..
Good things happen
To those who know how to wait…
PATIENTLY….
Because, in the end,
LIFE IS AN ENDLESS EXERCISE OF PATIENCE.
