They love their sons more than their daughters
Equality For All
Anupama Devkota
There are some conservative people who still make distinctions between men and women. They feel that men are superior to women in every way. They love their sons more than their daughters and so give the so everything that he wants. They do not hesitate to spend money on the education of their son. But they hesitate to do so for the daughter. For a girl, mere literacy is enough. They justify their actions with the belief that the son carries on their family name while the daughter gets married and goes to another family.
Some people are proud of their high position and wealth. They do not like to mix up with the other people in the community. It is beneath their dignity to be with ordinary people. They seldom take part in public celebrations. Some people support casteism. They make distinctions between high castes and lower castes and scorn the lower castes, and call them untouchables. There are selfish persons, too. They do not give money to the poor. They spend little or nothing for the good of the public though they are well-off. They have no interest in supporting public institutions like schools, libraries, temples, and mosques. They do not donate money for roads or bridges. Such people do not get public support when they need it. They do not get respect either.
There are other types of people too who do not discriminate between girls and boys, rich and poor, high castes and low castes. They love and respect all and treat everybody the same. They sympathize with the distressed. They are interested in public work and spend time and money in work for the public. They participate in any kind of constructive work required by the community. Because of their caring attitude, people also help them when they need help. So we should be friendly to all and treat everyone with equal love and respect. Moreover, we should support the needy more.
