Memories to cherish: School life

Surasma lamichhane

I still have a vivid memory of my first day of school. I remember holding my mother’s hand on my way to Patan Academy, in a tiny school uniform. I started crying once my mom was about to leave me there because I was scared of all the unfamiliar faces I was seeing but I slowly got used to it once those unfamiliar faces turned familiar when I realized those faces belonged to my teachers and my friends.

I still remember my Principal, Basanti ma’am. She was the kindest soul. I still miss her. I remember Nirmala ma’am and other teachers as well, they treated me so well. When I went back to the school a few years ago, many teachers that taught me weren’t there anymore but the ones that were there remembered me well and they were so kind to me. I’m thankful to all the teachers that helped me.

School is a student’s second home. School life is a beautiful time of our life where we get to learn about tons of things, not only related to our books but also related to our well-being. It also and prepares us to face all the challenges of life.

I had to change my school when I was in the 2nd grade because my parents had to go to work everyday, so I started studying in Gyanodaya Residential School. The first day in my new school here, was way more intimidating than the previous one. My father left me at my bus stop and I went to school in our school bus. I was amazed by the beautiful view of my school. The school slowly started growing in me. I made many friends and I got chances to sing in different programs as well as got part in different dramas/theater’s acts.
When I started growing up, I started getting into fights with my friends as well. Many of us got bullied by the seniors or even by the people we call ‘friends’ sometimes. School was a hard time for me specially in the 8th and the 9th grade cause being a teenager, you don’t really know what you’re doing and sometimes things just don’t feel right. People also treat you bad or start rumors about you in school or try to make you look bad but you should always keep your head up and you shouldn’t let the things that don’t matter hurt you. By the end of the 9th grade, things started getting better for me when I started focusing on myself and my studies. There are tough moments in our school life but we can all get through it if we’re strong.

Surely I am gonna miss a lot of things about school. I made a lot of memories in school. Some were good and some were bad. I cherish the good ones mainly but the bad ones make me laugh as well. I will miss the music club, the guitar club, literature club. I already miss the theatre and the November festival, Cultural day, bus trips and I also miss the noise that the students made when the teachers weren’t around. I miss the greenery of my school. I miss the bridge and the eco club. I also miss the farewell practice and the time we gave farewell to our seniors. It’s sad that we didn’t get a farewell from our juniors this year because of Covid. I really cherish my school life. It taught me a lot about life and it gave me strength and made me strong mentally.

Over 482,219 students had registered for this year’s SEE. I am one of the SEE graduates of this year. I had applied to different colleges this year but I’ve decided to go to KMC, Balkumari. I hope I get to learn a lot of new things that will help me grow as a human being. I’m looking forward to being the best version of myself in college.
