Ashok Silwal’s ‘Himalaya to Ocean’ Book Journey Reaches Schools

With the objective of connecting knowledge to real life beyond the boundaries of textbooks, the ‘Himalaya to Ocean’ book journey was successfully conducted at Peace Angels’ School, Gokarneshwor.

Held in the presence of author and traveler Ashok Silwal, the program featured warm and engaging interactions with students from various age groups. Discussions were centered on Silwal’s three works- Everest: An Unfinished Story, Appa Deepo Bhava, and Sri Lanka Smriti. Through interaction with students, in-depth discussions were held on the messages conveyed by books and the relationship between reading and the teaching-learning process.

The students demonstrated their ability to listen attentively to the stories and messages of the books, understand them, and interpret them in their own way, which made the program even more special.

‘Students were able to carefully listen to and understand the messages within the books. Direct interaction with the author greatly helps expand their thinking, expression, and outlook on life,’ said Principal Rajesh Kumar Bista while speaking about the program.

‘Finding students who can sense the soul of a book even before reading it is a big thing for an author,’ Silwal said, expressing his happiness.

‘Everest: An Unfinished Story’ encouraged students to reflect on life’s struggles, paths, and human values through the backdrop of Mount Everest, while ‘Appa Deepo Bhava’ highlighted the importance of self-reflection and awareness through the message ‘one must become one’s own light.’ ‘Sri Lanka Smriti’ presented a perspective of understanding the world through travel and experiencing diverse cultures.

The program went beyond a simple book introduction and was presented as an interactive platform that inspired students to question, think, feel, and read their own lives. The school community expressed confidence that such programs have a positive impact on students’ creative thinking, life perspective, and reading culture. A similar program had previously been conducted at Golden Horizon Academy.

The author shared that the ‘Himalaya to Ocean’ book journey campaign will continue to expand to other schools as well.
